Onward to Smith Rock

 

By March we were ready to get out for a bit more of an excursion. The hike from Gray Butte to Smith Rock is a good early season hike in Central Oregon. The view of the Cascade Mountains is excellent on much of this trail. Without knowing the area it is easy to take a wrong trail though. Our first few times trying to discover the route ended with us finding all kinds of other new places, quite by accident.

Of course our Springers love this area out here. We just have to do it early enough in the year so that the briars are not out. That can be very rough on dogs. We have went with field cuts on our Springer Spaniels to help take care of this problem.
